Here is an alphabetical list of videos that deal
generally with Carnival, Fairground and Amusement Park Flat Rides. Some
simulators, funhouses, darkrides, and other attractions are also shown. Be
sure to consult the other
Videos sections because many of those books

________ AWESOME RIDES (1994) NTSC This is aimed at children and shows on & off-ride views of Cedar Point's coasters along with flat rides from a travelling carnival. Also shown is a portable coaster being assembled and views of "The First Ferris Wheel" (which is erroneously attributed to George Ferris' big one of 1893 - see "Ferris Wheels" in The CEC's Ferris Wheel Books section. Plus look for "Photographic History of the World's Fair" in the 1893 World's Fair Books section). *(Not the best for the serious coaster buff, there are too many repeat shots of Cedar Point stock footage and many errors in the text of the narration. Some of the shots of rides being assembled dwell too long on little happening. This was likely done to flesh out the running time as this seems to be a shortened version of the following listing.) AWESOME RIDES (Continued) Produced by: Running Time: 31m Pinnacle Video Productions Order From: Price: Unknown Simitar Entertainment Plymouth, Minnesota 55447 U.S.A. Order #: 3124 ________ AWESOME TRAINS AND RIDES (19??) PAL This appears to be a longer version of the above listing. It repeats what is on that tape plus it also shows railroad trains. It may be for the British market as the order number and tape format appear to be UK related . *(Not Reviewed.) Produced by: Running Time: Unknown Pinnacle Video Productions Order From: Price: Unknown Unknown Order#: SUK 23176. ________ EXTREME RIDES (19 ) Includes coasters, free-fall rides, skycoasters, and reverse-bungee rides. *(Not Reviewed.) Produced By: Running Time: Order From: Price: UNAPIX/MIRAMAR 200 Second Avenue, West Seattle, Washington 98119 U.S.A. (206) 284-4700 ________ FUNHOUSE (19 ) A video about funhouses. No further information. Produced By: Running Time: Termite Arts Productions Order From: Price: ________ THE GREATEST (1998) NTSC "Thrill Rides" Part of a series, this episode concentrates initially on roller coasters, moves to simulators, then to a segment on fighter aircraft rides & training for the average citizen to have aerial dogfights with laser guns. *(There are abundant errors, half-truths, and opinions expressed as facts in the coaster segment but it is interesting none the less. Numerous coasters are shown, with Arrow profiled and interviews with Alan Shilke & park executives. The other segments also have interviews and the latest in technology. A novelty is the airplane segment. Two patrons are shown in training aud then are taken up with instructor but actually fly the planes and shoot the "guns" themselves with a corresponding smoke trail emanating from the loser.) Produced By: Running Time: 47m Whatabout..Me? Entertainment Eric Sholtz and Bill Paolantonio Order From: Price: ________ JURASSIC PARK: THE RIDE (199?) NTSC "The Making of..." A short view on the conception and building of The Universal Studios ride. The animatronics are described in detail. *(This shows how the ride was conceived almost even before the movie itself had been storyboarded and how much of the movie was recreated for the ride. Interviews with Steven Spielberg and the technicians & designers make for a fast, but informative overview of this attraction.) Produced By: Running Time: 23m Zaloom/Mayfield Productions California, U.S.A. Order From: Price: Unknown -The Learning Channel ________ JUST FOR FUN (1997) NTSC, PAL "Amusement Parks of the United Kingdom" Featured here are existing models of past amusement rides in The UK that have mostly disappeared from the North American scene. See the "Virginia Reel", Fun Houses, Dark Rides, "Steeplechase", "Noah's Ark's", and much, much more. Nine parks and twelve coasters are visited, with on-ride views of the coasters shown. *(A well- crafted video with good contrast images and sound. Many almost-lost rides are featured along with lots of fun house and dark ride inside views. The only complaints are lack of a steady-cam setup for the on-ride coaster views and some captions are not on the screen long enough. Recommended, especially for vintage ride and fun house fans.) Produced By: Running Time: 54m Encore Entertainment Special Edition: 76m Price: $24.98 (U.S. Funds) Order From: Encore Home Video ________ ROLLERCOASTER (1996) NTSC, PAL ? Part of the "Extreme Machines" series, this episode concentrates on extreme rides like "Nemesis", "Magnum", The "Big One" and other coasters. Other non-coaster rides are also included. *(Highly recommended. The photography and camera angles are excellent and the rides are well profiled. A good sequence shows the maintenance crews on "Mean Streak' and "Raptor" in detail. The roller coaster trains are examined and it's explained how they are lifted to the top of the first drop and also how they stay on the track. A good addition to your video collection.) Produced by: Running Time: 47m Pioneer Productions Order From: Price: Unknown The Learning Channel (Address To Follow) ________ ROLLER COASTERS AND OTHER RIDES (1994) NTSC No Further Information. *(Not Reviewed.) Produced By: Running Time: Unknown Baker & Taylor Video Order From: Price: $5.99 (U.S. Funds) Unknown ________ THRILL RIDE (1997) NTSC "The Science of Fun". Produced in IMAX format. It starts off with some on-board footage of rides like "Kumba" and "Montu", but then goes on to detail how motion pictures work and how they are incorporated into simulator rides like "Back to the Future". The mechanisms that move the seating are shown, with their origins in flight simulators discussed. *(This is not a film that hard-core coaster fans are likely to really enjoy due to the fact that few are shown. However, the details of how simulators were developed are interesting and well done. Produced By: Running Time: 40m New Wave International Sony Pictures Entertainment Culver City, California Order From: Price: Columbia Tristar Home Video ________ WILDEST RIDES (2000) NTSC Part of American television's Arts & Entertainment program's "Top 10" series, this tape features the "fastest, highest, longest, and scariest rides on earth". *(Not Reviewed.)
