PALAIS DES MACHINES (1994)

By Stuart Durant. Part of the series: "Architecture in Detail",
this is about the structures of the 1889 Paris Universal
Exposition. *(Recommended. Although not the first to use the
design of glass and steel, Palais des Machines was the largest
building of its type at that time, and this fair, more than any
before, ushered in this style of architecture. There are plans
and drawings for many of the buildings at this and other fairs
throughout the book. The Eiffel Tower and other buildings are
shown in various stages of construction through numerous photos.
Closeup details of construction techniques are well documented.
This is a must for architecture/design fans of the period, giving
a preview of today's steel and glass buildings.)
