Here are some figures for theme park attendance. Of course, having the most attendance doesn't necessarily mean it's the best park - it may be because it's near a high population base, and/or it's in a high tourist area, and/or it's better promoted giving a higher "want-to-go" factor.

Also, it was pointed out by American coaster fan Jennifer Lerch, that some parks are open year round, so they have additional months in which to get more people through the gates. She also suggested that many of the top parks are geared towards children, and so parents are more likely to go to a place that their children may enjoy, as well as themselves.

The following figures are rounded-off attendance for each park listed. The numbers shown in brackets below the category heading represent the latest season for which information is available. Note that some figures may not agree. These were obtained from varying sources and so the CEC cannot be responsible for their accuracy.

CANADA RANKINGS

(2000)
1/ Canada's Wonderland (Ontario) 2,970,000
2/ Playland/PNE (British Columbia) *2,750,000
3/ La Ronde (Quebec) 1,000,000

* Unconfirmed - Included the Pacific National Exhibition Attendence.

2005 Update: After a patronage decrease of 7% for 2003 due to the SARS (Severe Acute Respitory Syndrome) scare, and the widespread U.S./Canada electrical blackout that August, Canada's Wonderland showed a visits increase of 7% for 2005 versus 2004. This represents a total of 3.6 million visits, 700,000 over the 2000 season's total.

Despite this upturn, Wonderland moved down two positions to #23 from #21 in 2003 for Canada and U.S. park rankings. This was because two additional U.S. parks managed to gain more patrons in 2005.

Playland had a 2003 confirmed attendence of 1.22 million including The PNE and 320,000 without.
