Victoria Park
(1893 - 1899? 19-0's ?)

This started when William Clarke donated some of his farmland north of Grimsby's rail station for recreational purposes. The Hamilton, Grimsby & Beamsville railway had just come to Grimsby that year. Access was from Clarke Street down a flight of stairs and into a picnic grove filled with black walnut trees. Attractions included were a dance hall, picnic tables, refreshment booths, and rope swings.

The park only lasted a few short years because when that rail company extended its line to the already-popular Grimsby Park (see further back), Victoria lost its appeal. In 1899 the land title was transferred to the village of Grimsby. It's not clear if the park operated after that for a while, or not. A sewage treatment plant was later built on this land.
